What Are the Actual IBPS PO Ex-Servicemen Benefits 2026?
It is important to distinguish between special benefits available because of Ex-Servicemen status and the normal service benefits received by every candidate appointed as a Probationary Officer.
Under IBPS PO/MT-XVI, the major Ex-Servicemen-specific concession is the prescribed 5-year relaxation in the upper age limit for candidates satisfying the notification conditions. The notification does not provide a separate Ex-Servicemen reservation quota in the Officers’ Cadre.
| Benefit / Provision | IBPS PO/MT-XVI Position |
| Upper Age Relaxation | 5 years for the eligible notified Ex-Servicemen/Commissioned Officer category |
| Separate ESM Vacancy Reservation | No, not in the Officers’ Cadre |
| Separate Ex-Servicemen Exam | No |
| Special ESM Application Fee | No separate concession solely on ESM status |
| PO Salary & Allowances | Same applicable officer pay scale and bank-specific service benefits after selection |
| Promotion Opportunities | As per the promotion and service rules of the allotted bank; no separate ESM promotion channel |
IBPS PO Ex-Servicemen Age Relaxation 2026
The normal IBPS PO age limit under CRP PO/MT-XVI is 20 to 30 years as on 1 July 2026. A candidate under the normal age criteria should have been born not earlier than 2 July 1996 and not later than 1 July 2006, both dates inclusive.
For the notified Ex-Servicemen category, the upper-age limit is relaxed by 5 years.
Who Can Claim the 5-Year Ex-Servicemen Age Relaxation?
The notification covers Ex-Servicemen/Commissioned Officers, including Emergency Commissioned Officers (ECOs) and Short Service Commissioned Officers (SSCOs), subject to the prescribed conditions. The candidate must have rendered the required military service and satisfy the release conditions mentioned in the official IBPS PO notification.
- The relevant category must have rendered at least 5 years of military service.
- The candidate should have been released on completion of the assignment, subject to the conditions stated in the notification.
- The provision also covers eligible cases where the assignment is due to be completed within the period allowed by the notification.
- Release must not be due to dismissal or discharge on account of misconduct or inefficiency.
- The notified provision also addresses release because of physical disability attributable to military service or invalidment. Assess the complete service/release clause and applicable Government ceiling; do not treat assignment completion as the only permitted release ground.
Do not assume that every former defence employee automatically receives a 5-year relaxation. Eligibility depends on the exact Ex-Servicemen/Commissioned Officer definition, length of military service and release conditions prescribed in the CRP PO/MT-XVI notification.
Is There Ex-Servicemen Reservation in IBPS PO 2026?
No separate Ex-Servicemen reservation is provided in the Officers’ Cadre. This is one of the most important points for candidates searching for IBPS PO Ex-Servicemen benefits.
Ex-Servicemen should not confuse the rules applicable to officer recruitment with those applicable to certain clerical or other recruitment categories. For IBPS PO/MT-XVI, an eligible candidate may claim the applicable age relaxation but must compete through the regular officer recruitment process.
For detailed eligibility rules, read: IBPS PO ESM eligibility — notification copy hosted by CareerPower.
Does IBPS PO Give Any Special Fee Concession to Ex-Servicemen?
There is no separate application-fee concession solely for being an Ex-Serviceman under CRP PO/MT-XVI. The notified application fee is based on the candidate’s applicable category.
- SC/ST/PwBD: ₹175 inclusive of GST
- All other candidates: ₹850 inclusive of GST
Therefore, an Ex-Serviceman who separately belongs to a category eligible for the concessional fee may receive that concession under that category, not merely because of Ex-Servicemen status.
IBPS PO Selection Process for Ex-Servicemen
Eligible Ex-Servicemen follow the same IBPS PO selection process as other candidates. There is no separate ESM examination or alternative selection route.
- Online Preliminary Examination
- Online Main Examination
- Personality Test – mandatory but non-qualifying
- Common Interview
- Provisional Allotment to a participating bank
The Personality Test is part of the CRP PO/MT-XVI selection process. Candidates shortlisted after the Main Examination must complete the required Personality Test process before the interview stage as prescribed by IBPS.
IBPS PO Salary and Service Benefits After Selection
Salary, allowances and career benefits are general PO/MT service benefits and not separate Ex-Servicemen concessions. Once an eligible Ex-Serviceman is selected and allotted to a participating bank, the applicable officer pay scale and service rules of that bank apply.
IBPS PO Basic Pay 2026
The notified starting basic pay for the Probationary Officer/Management Trainee post is ₹48,480.
Official Pay Scale:
₹48,480 – 2,000/7 – ₹62,480 – 2,340/2 – ₹67,160 – 2,680/7 – ₹85,920
In addition to basic pay, an officer may receive admissible allowances, perquisites and service benefits according to the rules of the allotted participating bank and place of posting.
These may include applicable:
- Dearness Allowance (DA)
- House Rent Allowance or housing-related benefits as applicable
- Special Allowance and other admissible allowances
- Medical benefits under bank rules
- Leave and staff welfare benefits
- Retirement-related benefits under the applicable scheme
The official notification specifies the basic pay scale. Actual gross and in-hand salary can vary according to the allotted bank, posting location, prevailing allowance rates and applicable deductions.
Career Growth Opportunities After Joining IBPS PO
Ex-Servicemen selected through IBPS PO do not receive a separate promotion channel. They enter the officer cadre and progress according to the promotion policy, performance standards, experience requirements, vacancies and service rules of the allotted bank.
Military experience in leadership, discipline, administration, teamwork and decision-making can be useful in banking responsibilities, but it does not provide additional marks in the IBPS selection process.
Skills Ex-Servicemen Can Use in a Banking Career
Although the following skills are not recruitment concessions, they can help former Armed Forces personnel adapt effectively to officer-level banking responsibilities:
- Leadership and team management
- Discipline and professional ethics
- Decision-making under pressure
- Responsibility and accountability
- Administrative experience
- Problem-solving ability
- Communication and customer handling
- Ability to work within structured systems and procedures
Important Eligibility Points for Ex-Servicemen
Age relaxation alone does not make a candidate eligible for IBPS PO. All other applicable eligibility requirements must also be fulfilled.
- The normal age criteria are calculated as on 1 July 2026.
- The candidate must satisfy the exact conditions for claiming Ex-Servicemen age relaxation.
- A recognised Graduation degree is required for IBPS PO/MT-XVI.
- The qualification cut-off is 21 July 2026 for CRP PO/MT-XVI. The final result must have been declared by that date, with the prescribed graduation/equivalence proof. Do not replace this eligibility date with an extended application deadline. See Clause B.V of the notification (CareerPower-hosted copy).
- Candidates must fulfil the applicable nationality/citizenship conditions.
- Relevant service, release/discharge and category documents should be kept ready as required by the official notification and subsequent call letters.
- Original documents and required copies must be produced at the stage prescribed by IBPS.
Documents Ex-Servicemen Should Keep Ready
The exact documents depend on the candidate’s service status and the provisions applicable to the individual case. Candidates should follow the document requirements given in the official notification, application instructions and interview call letter.
Where applicable, candidates may need documentary proof relating to:
- Identity and date of birth
- Graduation qualification
- Ex-Servicemen or military-service status
- Length of military service
- Release/discharge from service
- Prescribed service certificate or declaration, wherever applicable
- SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwBD or other category status, if separately claimed
Candidates should not rely only on an online article for document eligibility. The exact proforma and documentary requirements mentioned by IBPS should be followed.

Why IBPS PO Can Be a Good Career After Defence Service
For eligible Ex-Servicemen, IBPS PO provides an opportunity to transition into an officer-level career in India’s Public Sector Banking system. The role offers structured training, an established pay scale, professional development and long-term career progression under the service rules of the allotted bank.
However, candidates should remember that salary, allowances, promotion and other employment benefits are attached to the Probationary Officer post itself. The specific recruitment concession connected with eligible Ex-Servicemen status under CRP PO/MT-XVI is primarily the notified upper-age relaxation
Conclusion
IBPS PO Ex-Servicemen Benefits 2026 should be understood carefully. Eligible Ex-Servicemen/Commissioned Officers covered by the CRP PO/MT-XVI conditions can claim a 5-year relaxation in the upper age limit. However, there is no separate Ex-Servicemen reservation in the Officers’ Cadre and no special ESM-only application-fee concession.
After selection, an Ex-Serviceman joins the same officer cadre and receives the applicable PO/MT salary, allowances, career progression and service benefits according to the rules of the allotted participating bank. Candidates should always verify their individual military-service and release conditions from the latest official IBPS notification before claiming age relaxation.
This article was reviewed against the IBPS CRP PO/MT-XVI recruitment information available as of 11 September 2026. Eligibility for Ex-Servicemen age relaxation depends on the exact conditions prescribed by IBPS and applicable Government rules. The official IBPS notification, corrigenda, call letters and subsequent notices will prevail in case of any difference.
