Last Updated: 16 September 2026
IBPS PO Salary 2026 starts with an official basic pay of ₹48,480 for Probationary Officer/Management Trainee posts under CRP PO/MT-XVI. The notified pay scale is ₹48,480–2,000/7–₹62,480–2,340/2–₹67,160–2,680/7–₹85,920. This basic-pay clause comes from the IBPS CRP PO/MT-XVI Detailed Notification. The final monthly salary also includes Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, Special Allowance, Learning Allowance and location-based benefits as applicable under the rules of the allotted participating bank.
For September 2026, the Dearness Allowance rate under the 12th Bipartite Settlement/9th Joint Note is 27.83% for August, September and October 2026, as stated in IBA Circular No. CIR/HR&IR/77/D/2026-27/3434 dated 3 August 2026 (reading copy of the IBA order). Using the verified entry-level Scale-I components, the illustrative gross monthly earnings work out to about ₹84,560 to ₹86,629 before bank-specific reimbursements and other benefits. After the settlement-defined employee NPS contribution alone, the corresponding amount is about ₹78,362 to ₹80,432 before income-tax/TDS and any employee-specific recoveries. IBPS does not prescribe one universal in-hand figure; the worked September 2026 example below shows the full arithmetic under stated assumptions.
📢 Latest Salary Update
The CRP PO/MT-XVI notification confirms the starting basic pay of ₹48,480 and the Scale-I pay scale. For August–October 2026, IBA Circular No. CIR/HR&IR/77/D/2026-27/3434 dated 3 August 2026 states DA at 27.83% of eligible pay. The exact gross and net salary is not fixed by IBPS because allowances, perquisites and deductions are governed by the allotted participating bank and the place of posting.

*Illustrative figures for a fresh Scale-I officer using the August–October 2026 DA rate. The ₹78,362–₹80,432 range is the amount after employee NPS only, not a guaranteed final salary credit. Actual in-hand pay can be lower or different because TDS, professional tax where applicable, accommodation-related recovery and other authorised deductions vary by employee, bank and posting.
IBPS PO Salary 2026 Overview
The IBPS PO salary is based on the officer pay structure applicable to participating Public Sector Banks. IBPS officially notifies the basic pay scale, while the allotted bank applies the relevant allowances, perquisites, service rules and deductions. This is why there is no single universal IBPS PO net salary that will be identical for every selected candidate.
As of 16 September 2026, the CRP PO/MT-XVI recruitment cycle is ongoing. The preliminary examination was scheduled for 22 and 23 August 2026, while the Main Examination is scheduled for 4 October 2026 as per the official IBPS calendar.

IBPS PO In Hand Salary 2026
The IBPS PO in hand salary is the amount credited after applicable employee deductions from gross monthly earnings. IBPS does not publish one fixed net salary for every PO because the allotted bank, posting centre, accommodation arrangement, NPS base, tax position and other authorised recoveries can change the final amount.
Illustrative In-Hand Calculation: Bank of India, Lucknow, September 2026
The following example is designed so that every step can be checked again. It uses Bank of India, Lucknow, September 2026 as the illustrative bank/city/month combination. Bank of India is a participating bank under CRP PO/MT-XVI, and Lucknow is listed as an Area-I centre in Bank of India’s officer service-regulation document (official bank document). Accordingly, the illustration uses 9% HRA and ₹2,300 CCA. It also assumes a fresh JMGS-I officer with no stagnation increment, PQP, officiating pay, loan recovery or accommodation recovery.
| Earnings | Calculation | Illustrative Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Basic Pay | Official starting basic | ₹48,480.00 |
| Special Allowance | 26.50% × ₹48,480 | ₹12,847.20 |
| Learning Allowance | Fixed allowance | ₹850.00 |
| DA-Eligible Pay | ₹48,480 + ₹12,847.20 + ₹850 | ₹62,177.20 |
| Dearness Allowance | 27.83% × ₹62,177.20 | ₹17,303.91 |
| House Rent Allowance | 9% × ₹48,480 | ₹4,363.20 |
| City Compensatory Allowance | Area-I / eligible-centre illustration | ₹2,300.00 |
| Gross Monthly Earnings | Sum of the above payable earnings; DA-Eligible Pay is a calculation base and is not added again | ₹86,144.31 |
Employee Deductions and Net Amount in This Example
| Deduction / Contribution | Calculation / Assumption | Illustrative Amount |
|---|---|---|
| NPS-Eligible “Pay” for a fresh officer | ₹48,480 Basic Pay; Special Allowance and Learning Allowance are not included in the superannuation/NPS pay base under the 9th Joint Note | ₹48,480.00 |
| DA on NPS-Eligible Pay | 27.83% × ₹48,480 | ₹13,491.98 |
| Employee NPS Contribution | 10% × (₹48,480 + ₹13,491.98) | − ₹6,197.20 |
| Income Tax / TDS | ₹0 only for this salary-only illustration under the default new-regime assumptions for tax year 2026-27. The Income-tax Act, 2025 is in force from 1 April 2026. Under Section 19, the standard deduction is ₹75,000 where tax is computed under Section 202(1), and the resident-individual rebate corresponding to the earlier Section 87A framework is now governed by Section 156. In this worked example, the annualised cash gross is about ₹10.34 lakh; even before applying the ₹75,000 standard deduction it remains below ₹12 lakh. Actual TDS can differ if there is other taxable income, special-rate income, taxable perquisites or different payroll/tax circumstances. See the official Section 19 salary-deduction provision, the official Section 202 new-regime provision, and the Income-tax Act, 2025 portal. | ₹0.00* |
| Professional Tax / Other Authorised Recoveries | ₹0 assumed only for this worked illustration; actual payroll deductions depend on the posting state, bank and employee-specific recoveries | ₹0.00* |
| Illustrative Net / In-Hand | ₹86,144.31 − ₹6,197.20 − ₹0 − ₹0 | ₹79,947.11 |
| Bank NPS Contribution | 14% × (₹48,480 + ₹13,491.98) | ₹8,676.08 |
*The ₹79,947.11 figure is a worked example under the stated assumptions, not a guaranteed salary credit. The bank’s ₹8,676.08 NPS contribution is an employer contribution and is deliberately not subtracted from the employee’s gross salary. Actual in-hand salary can be lower or different after actual TDS, professional tax where applicable, accommodation/loan recoveries, staff-related deductions or other authorised adjustments.
💡 Why In-Hand Salary Changes
Two officers with the same basic pay can receive different net salaries because HRA, CCA or location allowance, leased accommodation, tax liability, NPS-eligible pay components and other authorised recoveries can differ by bank, posting centre and individual circumstances.
IBPS PO Salary Structure 2026
The current IBPS PO salary structure for a fresh JMGS-I officer can be understood through the following major components. This calculation uses the DA rate applicable for August to October 2026. IBPS PO Pay Scale 2026

| Official Pay Scale |
|---|
| ₹48,480 – 2,000/7 – ₹62,480 – 2,340/2 – ₹67,160 – 2,680/7 – ₹85,920 |
IBPS PO Pay Scale Explained
| Stage | How Basic Pay Grows |
|---|---|
| Starting Basic | ₹48,480 |
| First 7 Increments | ₹2,000 each year, taking basic pay to ₹62,480 |
| Next 2 Increments | ₹2,340 each year, taking basic pay to ₹67,160 |
| Next 7 Increments | ₹2,680 each year, taking basic pay to ₹85,920 |
| Maximum Basic in Scale-I | ₹85,920 before applicable stagnation-related provisions |
The pay scale is not the same as the 7th Pay Commission pay matrix. Public Sector Bank officer wages are governed by the applicable bank wage settlement and service regulations.
IBPS PO Basic Pay 2026
The IBPS PO basic pay at entry level is ₹48,480. Basic pay is the foundation for several salary components and increases through the annual increment stages given in the official Scale-I pay scale.
| Basic Pay Stage | Amount |
|---|---|
| At Joining | ₹48,480 |
| After 1 Annual Increment | ₹50,480 |
| After 3 Annual Increments | ₹54,480 |
| After 5 Annual Increments | ₹58,480 |
| After 7 Annual Increments | ₹62,480 |
| After 9 Annual Increments | ₹67,160 |
| Maximum Basic in Scale-I | ₹85,920 |
Actual increment release is subject to the applicable service and increment rules of the bank.
IBPS PO Dearness Allowance 2026
Dearness Allowance is a major part of an IBPS Probationary Officer salary and is revised periodically based on the CPI-linked formula in the 9th Joint Note. For August, September and October 2026, IBA Circular No. CIR/HR&IR/77/D/2026-27/3434 dated 03.08.2026 fixes DA at 27.83% of eligible pay (reading copy of the IBA order). The preceding May–July 2026 rate was 25.70% under IBA Circular No. CIR/HR&IR/76/D/2026-27/3173 dated 02.05.2026 (reading copy).
| DA Period | DA Rate |
|---|---|
| May–July 2026 | 25.70% |
| August–October 2026 | 27.83% |
| Next Revision | Applicable from November 2026 after the next prescribed calculation |
Because DA changes with the settlement formula, candidates should avoid treating any single salary slip as a permanent monthly amount.
IBPS PO HRA, CCA and Location Allowance
House Rent Allowance and location-based allowances depend on where the officer is posted. Under the 9th Joint Note, effective from 01.11.2022, HRA is 10%, 9% or 8% depending on the classification of the posting area. The same settlement provides CCA of ₹2,300 or ₹1,900 at eligible centres and a ₹1,200 Location Allowance at eligible non-CCA centres. Source: official bank implementation copy of the 9th Joint Note.
| Allowance | Current Structure |
|---|---|
| HRA | 10%, 9% or 8% of eligible pay, depending on posting area |
| CCA | ₹2,300 or ₹1,900 per month at eligible centres |
| Location Allowance | ₹1,200 per month at eligible non-CCA centres |
| Lease / Accommodation | Subject to the allotted bank’s rules and posting |
IBPS PO Special Allowance and Learning Allowance
Under the 9th Joint Note, effective from 01.11.2022, a Scale-I officer receives Special Allowance at 26.50% of basic pay with applicable DA. At the starting basic pay of ₹48,480, this works out to ₹12,847.20 per month. The same settlement provides a Learning Allowance of ₹850 per month with applicable DA. These rates are stated in the 9th Joint Note hosted by Union Bank of India and are also reproduced in the official bank implementation circular.
| Allowance | Current Entry-Level Amount |
|---|---|
| Special Allowance | ₹12,847.20 |
| Learning Allowance | ₹850 |
| DA on Eligible Allowance Components | Included as per applicable DA rules |
IBPS PO Salary Slip 2026
An IBPS PO salary slip normally shows earnings, deductions and the final net salary credited for the month. The exact format differs from bank to bank, but the major heads generally include the following:
| Earnings | Deductions |
|---|---|
| Basic Pay | NPS contribution, where applicable |
| Dearness Allowance | Income Tax / TDS, if applicable |
| House Rent Allowance | Professional Tax, where applicable |
| Special Allowance | Staff welfare / association-related recoveries, where applicable |
| Learning Allowance | Loan or advance recovery, if any |
| CCA / Location Allowance | Other authorised deductions |
| Other admissible benefits | Net salary after deductions |
IBPS PO Salary Deductions 2026
Salary deductions are not identical for every IBPS PO. Under the 9th Joint Note, employees covered by the Defined Contributory Pension Scheme/NPS contribute 10% of superannuation-eligible “Pay” plus Dearness Allowance thereon, while the bank contributes 14%. For NPS/superannuation purposes, the settlement definition of “Pay” includes Basic Pay, stagnation increments, Professional Qualification Pay, Officiating Pay and the increment component of Fixed Personal Pay; Special Allowance and Learning Allowance are not part of that NPS pay base. Source: official bank implementation copy of the 9th Joint Note.
| Deduction / Contribution | How It Applies |
|---|---|
| Employee NPS Contribution | 10% of superannuation-eligible “Pay” plus applicable DA thereon for covered employees |
| Bank NPS Contribution | 14% of superannuation-eligible “Pay” plus applicable DA thereon; employer contribution, not an employee deduction |
| Income Tax / TDS | Depends on taxable income, tax regime and declarations |
| Professional Tax | Applicable only where levied |
| Other Recoveries | As per bank rules and individual circumstances |
⚠️ Do Not Treat One Payslip as Universal
A salary slip from one bank or one city should be used only as an illustration. Posting-related allowances, leased accommodation, taxes and recoveries can change the final net salary.
IBPS PO Annual Package 2026
Using the current August–October 2026 salary components, the annualised illustrative gross cash earnings of a fresh Scale-I officer are roughly ₹10.15 lakh to ₹10.40 lakh before additional bank-specific benefits. The total compensation value can be higher because participating banks may provide employer NPS contribution, medical benefits, leave travel facilities, lease rental or accommodation, reimbursements, insurance and other perquisites.
| Annual Compensation Component | Approximate / Applicable Value |
|---|---|
| Annualised Gross Cash Salary | Approx. ₹10.15–₹10.40 lakh at current illustrative rates |
| Employer NPS Contribution | Additional benefit as per applicable rules |
| Medical / Insurance Benefits | As per bank rules |
| LFC / Travel Benefits | As per bank rules |
| Lease Rental / Housing Benefit | Depends on bank and place of posting |
| Other Reimbursements / Perquisites | Bank-specific |
For this reason, quoting one fixed IBPS PO CTC for all participating banks can be misleading. The official notification itself leaves allowances and perquisites to the rules of the participating bank.
IBPS PO Allowances and Perks 2026
| Allowance / Benefit | Details |
|---|---|
| Dearness Allowance | CPI-linked and revised periodically; 27.83% for August–October 2026 |
| House Rent Allowance | 8%, 9% or 10% depending on posting area |
| Special Allowance | 26.50% of basic pay for Scale-I, with applicable DA |
| CCA / Location Allowance | Depends on posting centre |
| Learning Allowance | ₹850 plus applicable DA |
| Medical Benefits | As per participating bank rules |
| Leave Fare / Travel Concession | As per participating bank rules |
| Lease / Housing Facility | Subject to bank policy and posting |
| Newspaper / Reimbursement Benefits | As per bank rules |
| Retirement Benefits | NPS and other eligible retirement benefits as applicable |
IBPS PO Job Profile
An IBPS Probationary Officer works in a managerial officer cadre and may be trained across different branch and banking functions before taking independent responsibilities. Duties vary by bank and posting, but commonly include customer service, relationship management, branch operations, loan processing, compliance, KYC, business development and supervision of routine branch activities.
| Major Responsibilities |
|---|
| Customer service and relationship management |
| Account and branch operations |
| Loan processing, appraisal support and documentation |
| Compliance, KYC and operational controls |
| Supervision of routine branch activities |
| Business development and promotion of banking products |
| Handling customer grievances and service requests |
For a detailed role-wise explanation, read the ExamTune guide on IBPS PO Job Profile.
IBPS PO Career Growth and Promotion
IBPS PO career growth depends on the promotion policy of the allotted bank, performance, experience, internal examinations or selection processes and available vacancies. A more accurate grade-based hierarchy is:
| Officer Scale | Typical Grade / Designation |
|---|---|
| JMGS-I | Probationary Officer / Assistant Manager level |
| MMGS-II | Manager |
| MMGS-III | Senior Manager |
| SMGS-IV | Chief Manager |
| SMGS-V | Assistant General Manager |
| TEGS-VI | Deputy General Manager |
| TEGS-VII | General Manager |
| Higher Leadership | Subject to bank structure, selection and applicable appointment rules |
Branch Manager is a functional role and can be held by officers in different scales depending on the size and classification of the branch, so it should not be treated as one fixed grade in the promotion ladder.
IBPS PO Salary After 5 Years
If an officer receives five normal annual increments in Scale-I and has not yet moved to another scale, the basic pay would reach approximately ₹58,480 under the notified pay progression. The actual monthly salary after five years will also depend on the DA rate applicable at that time, promotion status, qualification pay, posting and other benefits.
| Stage | Basic Pay / Salary Position |
|---|---|
| Initial Joining | ₹48,480 basic pay |
| After 5 Annual Increments | ₹58,480 basic pay, subject to service rules |
| If Promoted Earlier | Salary will follow the promoted scale and fitment rules |
IBPS PO Salary vs SBI PO Salary
IBPS PO and SBI PO use the same broad JMGS-I scale base, but the starting pay treatment is not identical. SBI’s current PO recruitment provides four advance increments on the ₹48,480 scale, making its effective starting basic higher than a standard fresh IBPS PO joining basic.
| Particular | IBPS PO | SBI PO |
|---|---|---|
| Scale Base | ₹48,480 | ₹48,480 |
| Advance Increments at Entry | No universal advance increment stated in the IBPS CRP PO/MT-XVI compensation clause | 4 advance increments under the current SBI PO recruitment |
| Effective Starting Basic | ₹48,480 | ₹56,480 after 4 advance increments |
| Allowances | As per participating bank rules | As per SBI rules |
| CTC | Varies by participating bank and posting | SBI publishes its own recruitment-specific CTC estimate |
| Career Growth | Strong; bank-specific promotion policy | Strong; SBI-specific promotion policy |
Why IBPS PO Salary Is Attractive
The IBPS Probationary Officer salary combines a strong basic pay, periodic increments, DA revisions, location-based allowances and long-term career progression. Candidates should evaluate the complete compensation package rather than only the monthly net amount because employer retirement contribution, housing support, medical benefits and reimbursement facilities can add meaningful value beyond the amount credited to the salary account.

Conclusion
IBPS PO Salary 2026 offers a starting basic pay of ₹48,480 in the official Scale-I pay structure, along with Special Allowance, Dearness Allowance, HRA, Learning Allowance and location-based benefits. With the verified 27.83% DA rate for August–October 2026, a fresh officer’s illustrative gross cash earnings are about ₹84,560–₹86,629 per month. After employee NPS alone, the corresponding amount is about ₹78,362–₹80,432 before any actual TDS and employee-specific recoveries; the worked Lucknow example above produces ₹79,947.11 under its stated assumptions. The actual salary credit is bank-, posting- and employee-specific, while annual increments, promotion opportunities and bank-specific perquisites add to the longer-term compensation value.
