IBPS PO Prelims Section-Wise Marks 2026
Candidates must note that the IBPS PO Prelims exam pattern has revised section-wise mark distribution under CRP PO/MT-XVI. Therefore, candidates should not compare their 2026 score card using an outdated 35-mark Quant and 35-mark Reasoning pattern.

How Are IBPS PO Scores Calculated?
IBPS applies the prescribed scoring procedure to the objective examination before reporting candidate scores. Incorrect answers attract a penalty. Under the official CRP PO/MT-XVI rule, one-fourth of the marks assigned to that particular question is deducted for a wrong answer. If a question is left unanswered, there is no penalty for that question.
This distinction is especially important in the 2026 examination because all three Prelims sections do not carry identical marks relative to their number of questions.
IBPS PO Score Normalisation
When an examination is conducted in different sessions, the corrected scores obtained by candidates are normalised using the equi-percentile method. This is intended to account for minor differences in difficulty level across different examination sessions.
For calculation purposes, IBPS considers scores up to two decimal points. Therefore, the score displayed on the IBPS PO Score Card may not necessarily be a whole number.

Are IBPS PO Prelims Marks Added to Final Merit?
No. The Preliminary Examination is used for shortlisting candidates for the Online Main Examination. Prelims marks do not determine the final provisional allotment merit.
Therefore, candidates who qualify the Preliminary Examination should shift their focus immediately to the Main Examination rather than treating the Prelims score as part of their final selection marks.
Important Note About IBPS PO Mains Scores
The score-display rules differ between recruitment stages. Under CRP PO/MT-XVI, candidates shortlisted from the Online Main Examination move ahead to the Personality Test and Interview process. IBPS states that Online Main Examination scores are not shared with candidates shortlisted for interview before completion of the interview process.
The Personality Test is mandatory for interview eligibility but is non-qualifying in nature. Final selection is based on the applicable Main Examination and Interview scores as prescribed by IBPS.
What to Do After Checking IBPS PO Prelims Score Card?
If you have qualified the Prelims stage, concentrate on the IBPS PO Main Examination scheduled for 4 October 2026. The Main Examination is significantly more important for final selection and includes objective as well as descriptive assessment.
If your score is below the qualifying requirement, use the IBPS PO Section Wise Marks to identify weaker areas such as Reasoning Ability, Quantitative Aptitude or English Language and plan your preparation for upcoming banking examinations accordingly.
IBPS PO Score Card Not Opening – What Should You Do?
After a score card is released, the IBPS website may receive heavy traffic. If the page does not open immediately, candidates should:
- Check whether the official score-display window is currently active.
- Verify the Registration Number/Roll Number carefully.
- Enter the correct password or Date of Birth format requested by IBPS.
- Enter the captcha/security code again.
- Use an updated browser and stable internet connection.
- Try again after some time if the official portal is temporarily busy.
Candidates should also remember that IBPS score-display links are normally available only for a specified period. It is advisable to save a copy after successfully accessing the score card.
