1. Date of birth: Enter the DOB recorded in your accepted documents.
2. Reference date: Check the displayed 1 August 2026 cut-off. This field is fixed in the calculator.
3. Social category: Select General, EWS, OBC Non-Creamy Layer, SC or ST.
4. Service category: Select ESM or DESM according to your records.
5. Service position: Indicate whether you were released/retired or still serving on the cut-off date.

Entering Defence Service Correctly

For a supported service period of 15 years, 7 months and 12 days, enter 15, 7 and 12 in the respective fields. Do not round it to 16 years. The form accepts 0–11 months and 0–30 days alongside the years field.

The IBPS Clerk ESM Age Calculator accepts a duration entered by you; it does not calculate accepted service from enrolment and discharge documents. Do not count projected future service as completed service. Obtain clarification where your records do not clearly identify the period relevant to the recruitment.

Check the Date of Birth, Not Only Completed Years

The stated unrelaxed DOB range includes 2 August 1998 but excludes 1 August 1998. A rounded age display cannot replace this exact-date check. Candidates claiming ESM/DESM relaxation need their applicable relaxed boundary assessed separately.

Software method: This calculator estimates a relaxed DOB window by shifting the base earliest DOB backwards by service and additional years, then applying its 50-year boundary convention. It uses calendar years, months and days, with month-end adjustment where necessary. This is the tool’s arithmetic model, not an ESM date algorithm issued by IBPS. Boundary cases are flagged for review.

IBPS Clerk ESM Age-Relaxation Formula

In the IBPS Clerk ESM Age Calculator, the basic illustration for an eligible General/EWS ESM candidate is:

The relaxation and the resulting age limit are different numbers. With 15 years of service, service plus 3 gives an 18-year concession; adding it to the base upper age of 28 gives 46 years. The ceiling does not automatically increase that result to 50.

OBC, SC/ST and Cumulative Relaxation

Clause B.II lists 3 years for OBC Non-Creamy Layer and 5 years for SC/ST. Note (i) permits the social-category concession with only one of the other listed relaxation categories, not every available concession together.

Calculator implementation: The tool uses service plus 3 for General/EWS ESM or DESM, service plus 3 plus 3 for OBC-NCL ESM or DESM, and service plus 3 plus 5 for SC/ST ESM. Its calculations apply the 50-year ceiling. It does not add a further PwBD concession on top of these combinations.

DESM SC/ST: The special 8-year figure replaces the ordinary 3-year figure within the ESM/DESM entry; it is not a 3 + 8 allowance. For this combination, the plugin displays two arithmetic readings of the special entry and cumulative note and returns Manual verification required. The additional-5-year reading is marked unconfirmed. Do not treat that display as official permission to claim it.

Read the age table and cumulative note together in the hosted notification copy. Seek clarification from IBPS or the participating bank when the accepted treatment of your claim is unclear.

Examples of IBPS Clerk ESM Age Calculation

These IBPS Clerk ESM Age Calculator examples use assumed details. Read each age estimate with its DOB window and the stated verification limits.

Example 1: General/EWS Ex-Serviceman

Assume a released General-category ESM candidate has 15 years of defence service and a DOB of 15 July 1983. Age on the reference date is 43 years, 0 months and 17 days.

The illustrative upper age is 28 + 15 + 3 = 46 years. The plugin estimates a DOB window of 2 August 1980 to 1 August 2006, which contains the example DOB. This matches the built-in example; it does not establish the candidate’s remaining eligibility.

Example 2: OBC Ex-Serviceman

For 15 years of service and an eligible OBC-NCL claim using the permitted cumulative concession, the illustration is 28 + 15 + 3 + 3 = 49 years. The final 3 years are the OBC-NCL concession. Review the calculated DOB window and supporting category documents separately.

Example 3: SC/ST Disabled Ex-Serviceman

The special DESM SC/ST entry uses service plus 8 years. With 15 years of service, 28 + 15 + 8 = 51 years before the 50-year ceiling. The plugin still marks this category combination for manual verification rather than issuing automatic approval under either displayed reading.

These are explanatory calculations using assumed service records, not IBPS-issued eligibility decisions. The 15-year examples do not prescribe a universal minimum-service condition.

Documents Required to Claim ESM Age Relaxation

• Accepted date-of-birth proof and photo identity proof.
• Discharge certificate, discharge book or other applicable service records.
• Evidence of the actual defence-service period.
• Prescribed ESM/DESM certificate or declaration matching the service position.
• SC/ST or valid OBC-NCL certificate when the corresponding concession is claimed.
• Serving-personnel certificates, undertakings, release documents or NOC wherever required.

IBPS Clerk ESM Age Calculator Results Explained

Within the estimated age range: Your DOB fits the displayed model for the entered details. Service acceptance, certificates and other eligibility requirements remain separate checks.

Outside the estimated age range: Your DOB falls outside that model. Review the entries and relevant provisions; this message is not an official rejection.

Below the minimum age: The entered DOB is later than 1 August 2006. The tool does not use upper-age concessions to reduce the minimum age.

Manual verification required: The software refers DESM SC/ST combinations, still-serving cases and DOBs on or immediately next to an estimated upper-age boundary for review. This referral is not itself a disqualification.

The calculator’s own code processes inputs in the browser without submitting them to a server; that statement does not cover unrelated website scripts.
