IBPS Clerk Eligibility Criteria 2026

IBPS Clerk Eligibility Criteria 2026 – Nationality

The nationality requirements under the IBPS Clerk Eligibility Criteria 2026 cover the following categories. A candidate must be:

• A citizen of India; or
• A subject of Nepal; or
• A subject of Bhutan; or
• A Tibetan refugee who arrived in India before 1 January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India; or
• A person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar (Burma), Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Candidates belonging to the categories other than citizens of India must possess a Certificate of Eligibility issued by the Government of India, wherever required. Nationality eligibility and category-based age relaxation are separate requirements; a certificate for one does not establish the other.

IBPS Clerk Eligibility Criteria 2026 – Educational Qualification

• A Degree (Graduation) in any discipline from a university recognised by the Government of India or any equivalent qualification recognised by the Central Government is required.
• The candidate must possess a valid mark sheet or degree certificate showing graduation status on the date of registration and must indicate the percentage of marks obtained in Graduation while applying online.
• The final result of the prescribed educational qualification must have been declared on or before 21 August 2026. The application-window extension to 28 August 2026 did not extend this qualification cut-off.
• Computer Literacy: Operating and working knowledge of computer systems is mandatory. Candidates should have a Certificate/Diploma/Degree in computer operations or computer language, or should have studied Computer/Information Technology as one of the subjects in High School, College or Institute.
• Candidates applying for a particular State/UT should be proficient in reading, writing, speaking and understanding the specified or opted local language of that State/UT.
• Matriculate Ex-Servicemen who do not possess the regular civil graduation qualification may be eligible if they have obtained the Army Special Certificate of Education or a corresponding certificate in the Navy or Air Force after completing not less than 15 years of service in the Armed Forces, subject to the detailed IBPS rules and cut-off date.

Final-year and result-awaited candidates: Appearing in the final examination alone does not establish graduation eligibility. Candidates needed a declared result and valid graduation proof at registration, while also meeting the qualification cut-off. A result declared after the cut-off does not meet that condition merely because registration remained open later.

Graduation documents: Check the declared result date, graduation status and percentage entered in the application against your academic records. Is a separate computer certificate necessary? Not for every candidate. The listed routes include a computer Certificate/Diploma/Degree or study of Computer/Information Technology as a subject. Candidates using the subject-study route should keep the relevant academic record. Practical computer knowledge and evidence of meeting the prescribed route are different checks.

Local-language proficiency: The requirement covers reading, writing, speaking and understanding the specified or opted language of the State/UT. Candidates should check all four abilities rather than assuming that speaking the language alone satisfies the requirement. LLPT applies where required before joining.

Ex-Servicemen qualification route: The special route combines the prescribed education certificate with at least 15 years of Armed Forces service, subject to the notification conditions. Service length alone should not be treated as a substitute for the required certificate. This route is separate from Ex-Servicemen age relaxation.

IBPS Clerk Eligibility Criteria 2026 – Age Limit

The IBPS Clerk Age Limit is a key part of the IBPS Clerk Eligibility Criteria. For CRP CSA-XVI, check your age on the specified cut-off date, not on the application or examination date:

• Minimum age limit: 20 years
• Maximum age limit: 28 years
• Age calculated as on: 1 August 2026

IBPS Clerk Number of Attempts 2026

IBPS Clerk Number of Attempts 2026 has no fixed numerical cap. Previous examination appearances do not, by themselves, make a candidate ineligible. The IBPS Clerk Eligibility Criteria still require candidates to meet the relevant age limit, qualification, nationality and other conditions for each recruitment cycle.

Repeat applicants should check the new cycle’s cut-off dates and documents rather than relying only on eligibility in an earlier year. The absence of an attempt limit does not extend the application window.

Is There Any Attempt Limit for IBPS Clerk 2026?

No fixed attempt limit is prescribed. Candidates remain subject to the other eligibility conditions in the notification. Previous participation in Prelims, Mains or provisional allotment does not replace the need to satisfy those conditions for a fresh recruitment cycle.

IBPS Clerk Attempts and Age Limit

Attempt eligibility is controlled by the applicable age limit, not by a separately allotted attempt quota. The basic age requirement for CRP CSA-XVI is 20 to 28 years as on 1 August 2026.

Under the IBPS Clerk Eligibility Criteria, an eligible age concession may allow participation in additional recruitment cycles. It does not grant a fixed number of extra attempts. The table below summarises this distinction by category.

Do Previous IBPS Clerk Attempts Affect a New Application?

Earlier attempts alone do not disqualify a candidate. Each recruitment cycle requires fresh registration, the prescribed documents and the applicable fee. Earlier Prelims or Mains marks do not carry forward. Any debarment or other candidature restriction must still be respected.

Does Appearing Only in Prelims Count as an Attempt?

Appearing only in Prelims does not use up an attempt quota because no fixed quota is prescribed. A candidate who did not qualify for Mains may participate in a later cycle while eligible. The same principle applies after an unsuccessful Mains appearance.

Does Absence from the Examination Count as an Attempt?

Submitting an application and remaining absent does not create an attempt-related bar for a later cycle. However, the application fee is generally not refunded merely because the candidate was absent. Check eligibility and the examination schedule before making another application.

Are SBI Clerk and IBPS RRB Clerk Attempts Included?

No. SBI Clerk, IBPS RRB Office Assistant, IBPS PO and SBI PO are separate recruitment examinations. Their appearances are not added to an IBPS Clerk attempt quota. Candidates must meet each examination’s own eligibility conditions rather than applying one recruitment’s rules to another.

Do Reserved-Category Candidates Receive Extra Attempts?

Eligible reserved-category candidates receive the prescribed upper-age relaxation, not a separately defined number of extra attempts. They must select the correct category and produce valid supporting certificates. An unsupported relaxation claim may be rejected during document verification.

Can an Ex-Serviceman Apply Multiple Times?

An eligible Ex-Serviceman may participate more than once, subject to the notification’s service, age, re-employment, reservation and documentary conditions. Reservation does not guarantee selection; the examination and verification requirements still apply.

Important Conditions for Repeated Attempts

• A recognised graduation degree or equivalent qualification must be available by the specified date.

IBPS Clerk Eligibility Criteria 2026 – Work Experience

No prior work experience is required. Fresh graduates can meet the IBPS Clerk Eligibility Criteria if they fulfil the prescribed age, qualification, nationality, computer-literacy and local-language conditions. An internship or previous banking job is not stated as a separate requirement in this eligibility summary.

Work experience does not replace the mandatory educational qualification. Candidates relying on the prescribed Ex-Servicemen qualification route must meet that route’s specific conditions; it is not a general work-experience exemption.

Candidates seeking PwBD reservation or examination assistance such as scribe/compensatory-time facilities should read the relevant IBPS instructions carefully and keep the prescribed disability certificate and supporting documents ready.
