IBPS PO Personality Test 2026: Complete Official Guide

IBPS PO Personality Test is an important stage of the CRP PO/MT-XVI recruitment process conducted by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection. Candidates shortlisted on the basis of the Online Main Examination have to appear for a self-report Personality Test before becoming eligible for the Common Interview.

According to the official IBPS notification, the IBPS PO Personality Test is non-qualifying in nature. However, appearing in it is compulsory. The personality profile generated through the assessment is placed before the Interview Panel. Therefore, candidates should clearly understand the IBPS PO Personality Test process, its purpose, eligibility, mode and relationship with the final interview.

Current Update – 10 September 2026: The Personality Test for CRP PO/MT-XVI is tentatively scheduled for November 2026. IBPS has not yet announced a separate exact Personality Test date, reporting time or final mode for this cycle. Candidates should follow only the official IBPS website for the final notice.

What is the IBPS PO Personality Test?

The IBPS PO Personality Test is described by IBPS as a self-report assessment. Candidates who qualify and are shortlisted after the Online Main Examination are called for this stage.

The test is different from the Common Interview. In the Personality Test, the candidate provides responses as part of a personality assessment. A Personality Profile based on the assessment is then placed before the Interview Panel.

IBPS has not prescribed an academic syllabus for the Personality Test. It should therefore not be treated like the Preliminary or Main Examination where candidates prepare Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning, English or Banking Awareness.

Is IBPS PO Personality Test Mandatory?

Yes. Appearing for the IBPS PO Personality Test is mandatory. This is one of the most important rules candidates must understand.

Although the Personality Test itself is non-qualifying, a candidate who does not appear for it will not be eligible to appear for the subsequent Interview process.

In simple terms:

  • There is no separate qualifying score prescribed for the Personality Test.
  • The Personality Test does not replace the Common Interview.
  • Appearing in the Personality Test is compulsory.
  • The Personality Profile is made available to the Interview Panel.
  • Skipping the Personality Test means losing eligibility for the Interview.

Who is Eligible for the IBPS PO Personality Test?

Candidates must first qualify the IBPS PO Main Examination according to the cut-off criteria decided by IBPS. A candidate is required to obtain the prescribed minimum score in individual tests of the Main Examination as well as the required minimum total score to be considered for shortlisting.

The number of candidates shortlisted for the IBPS PO Personality Test and Interview depends on factors including the available vacancies and cut-offs decided by IBPS.

Therefore, simply appearing in the Main Examination does not automatically make a candidate eligible for the Personality Test. The candidate must be officially shortlisted by IBPS.

IBPS PO Personality Test Date 2026

As per the official CRP PO/MT-XVI recruitment schedule, the IBPS PO Personality Test is tentatively scheduled for November 2026.

The official IBPS examination calendar fixed the PO/MT Main Examination for 4 October 2026. The detailed recruitment schedule places the declaration of the Main Examination result in November 2026, followed by the Personality Test in November 2026 and Interviews during November/December 2026.

Important: As of 10 September 2026, IBPS has not issued a separate CRP PO/MT-XVI notice specifying the exact Personality Test date and reporting instructions. Candidates should not treat unofficial exact dates circulating online as confirmed.

IBPS PO Personality Test Mode

The official notification states that the IBPS PO Personality Test may be conducted through proctored mode or at identified examination centres, as decided by IBPS.

This means candidates should wait for the official Personality Test communication before assuming whether the assessment will be taken remotely or at a physical centre.

For the preceding CRP PO/MT-XV recruitment cycle, IBPS conducted an Online Personality Test in Remote Proctored Mode. However, this previous-cycle arrangement should not automatically be treated as confirmation of the CRP PO/MT-XVI mode because the current notification gives IBPS the discretion to decide the mode.

Does the IBPS PO Personality Test Carry Marks?

No separate qualifying marks have been prescribed for the Personality Test. The official notification clearly describes it as non-qualifying in nature.

The Personality Test should also not be confused with the Interview, which carries 100 marks. The minimum qualifying marks in the Interview will not be less than 40% for candidates other than SC/ST/OBC/PwBD and 35% for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD candidates.

The relative weightage of the Online Main Examination and Interview is 80:20. The combined final score used for the final selection process is based on the candidate’s Main Examination and Interview performance.

IBPS PO Personality Test vs Interview

Feature Personality Test Common Interview
Nature Self-report personality assessment Personal Interview
Mandatory Yes Yes for shortlisted candidates
Qualifying Marks No separate qualifying marks prescribed Minimum qualifying marks prescribed
Marks Not specified as a merit-scoring stage 100 Marks
Purpose Creates a Personality Profile for Interview Panel Evaluates candidate during the interview process
Final Merit Weightage No separate weightage specified Included with Mains in 80:20 ratio

How is the Personality Profile Used in the IBPS PO Interview?

The official notification specifically states that the Personality Profile of candidates will be placed before the Interview Panel. This is the clearest officially stated purpose of the assessment.

However, IBPS has not publicly specified a fixed list of personality traits, a public scoring formula or the exact method by which the Interview Panel will interpret each candidate’s personality profile.

Therefore, candidates should avoid claims that a specific personality type automatically results in selection or rejection.

What Has IBPS Not Officially Announced Yet?

For accuracy, candidates should distinguish between confirmed information and assumptions. As of 10 September 2026, the official notification does not provide a fixed academic syllabus, exact number of Personality Test questions, exact duration, a publicly disclosed personality scoring formula or a separate CRP PO/MT-XVI Personality Test date.

If IBPS releases a separate call letter, information handout, email communication or Personality Test notice, those instructions will take precedence over general preparation advice available online.

How to Prepare for the IBPS PO Self Report Personality Test?

Since this is a self-report assessment rather than a conventional knowledge examination, candidates should focus on giving genuine and consistent responses. There is no officially prescribed textbook or academic syllabus for the IBPS PO Personality Assessment.

As general preparation guidance, candidates can read each statement carefully, respond according to their actual behaviour and avoid trying to artificially create a supposedly “perfect” personality. Candidates should also follow the technical and identification instructions mentioned in the official call letter or communication issued by IBPS.

These are preparation suggestions and should not be confused with an officially published IBPS scoring strategy.

IBPS PO Selection Process After Personality Test

Candidates who have been shortlisted in the Online Main Examination and appear for the Personality Test will subsequently be called for the Common Interview. Interviews are conducted by the Participating Banks and coordinated by the Nodal Bank in each State/UT/Region with the help of IBPS.

The final score is prepared by combining the Online Main Examination and Interview scores in the prescribed 80:20 ratio. Candidates must qualify both the Main Examination and Interview and rank sufficiently high in the merit process to be considered for subsequent provisional allotment.
