IBPS Clerk Expected Cut Off helps candidates estimate the marks required to qualify for Prelims and remain competitive for final selection. The official cut-off must be checked in the relevant IBPS result, scorecard or cut-off notice. Until then, candidates can use the state-wise expected ranges, previous trends, vacancy level and exam difficulty discussed below to set a realistic safe-score target.

Latest Update — 10 September 2026: For the 2026 examination cycle (CRP CSA-XVI), the ranges below are pre-exam editorial estimates, not official cut-offs. The notification already includes indicative State/UT-wise and category-wise vacancies. These ranges are not based on actual 2026 shift-level performance. Review them after the examinations and whenever the vacancy position changes.

IBPS Clerk Expected Cut Off: State-Wise Prelims & Mains Analysis

The IBPS Clerk Expected Cut Off will depend heavily on the final State/UT-wise vacancy distribution, paper difficulty, candidate attendance and normalisation. Candidates should not rely on one all-India number because IBPS Clerk recruitment and cut-offs are State/UT-wise.

Before setting a target, also check the IBPS Clerk notification, IBPS Clerk exam date, IBPS Clerk syllabus and IBPS Clerk documents required.

Is the IBPS Clerk Cut Off Official?

No. The 2026 expected ranges on this page are not official IBPS cut-offs. The separate 2025 table is a historical reference, not a 2026 result. IBPS may consider the number of vacancies, total candidates, State/UT, category, paper difficulty, shift-wise normalisation and overall performance before fixing the qualifying marks.

Prelims is a qualifying stage. Only Mains marks count towards final merit, subject to document verification, local-language requirements and State/UT-wise merit. Candidates must also meet the prescribed sectional cut-offs; a high overall score alone is not sufficient. Therefore, candidates should understand the exam pattern and syllabus before comparing scores.

The IBPS Clerk Expected Cut Off may vary according to the State/UT, category, vacancies, difficulty level, candidate performance and normalisation process. These figures should be treated as planning estimates, not guaranteed qualifying marks.

IBPS Clerk Prelims Expected Cut Off State Wise

The following 2026 General/UR ranges are provisional pre-exam planning estimates, not post-exam predictions. They assume a moderate overall paper and a vacancy distribution broadly comparable with recent recruitment cycles; this assumption must be checked State/UT-wise against the published indicative vacancies. An easier paper or fewer vacancies can push the cut-off higher, while a difficult paper or increased vacancies can reduce it.

State/UT Expected General/UR Cut Off
Andhra Pradesh 72–79
Assam 75–82
Bihar 73–81
Chandigarh 82–87
Chhattisgarh 72–79
Delhi 80–85

Rajasthan 80–85
Tamil Nadu 58–70

Uttarakhand 83–87
West Bengal 82–87
Editorial safe-score rule: Try to score at least 3–5 marks above the upper end of your State/UT’s expected range in full-length mocks. This is a preparation target, not a guarantee of qualification.

How to Estimate the IBPS Clerk Expected Cut Off

The ranges should not be treated as the output of a verified statistical model. Review the 2025 State/UT cut-offs, earlier-year changes and the current vacancy matrix before revising them. The following factors help assess a forecast; this article does not provide measured 2026 attendance, accuracy or shift-wise score distributions:

  • State-wise and category-wise vacancies;
  • difficulty level and number of easy questions;
  • candidate volume and attendance;
  • shift-wise normalisation;
  • accuracy level and negative marking;
  • number of candidates shortlisted for Mains; and
  • unusually high or low previous cut-offs in volatile States.

After the examination, these predictions should be revised using actual shift analysis, reported good attempts, candidate feedback and vacancy data.

Why the Mains Cut Off Looks Lower Than 200 Marks

The Mains paper carries 200 marks, but scores are converted to a 100-mark scale for provisional allotment. An expected final cut-off of 42–48 in this article therefore means 42–48 out of 100, not 42–48 raw marks out of 200.

Score conversion and shift-wise normalisation are different processes. Always identify both the examination stage and the maximum marks when comparing cut-offs. Attempts alone do not reveal a final-allotment score without correct answers, penalties and the applicable score processing.

IBPS Clerk Category-Wise Cut Off

There is no dependable fixed national cut-off for General, OBC, EWS, SC, ST or PwBD candidates. The cut-off is determined separately for each State/UT and category according to available vacancies and candidate performance.

Candidates should not use an artificial rule such as “subtract five marks for OBC” or “subtract ten marks for SC/ST.” The notification already contains an indicative State/category vacancy matrix. Use it with category-specific past cut-offs and exam performance before revising estimates. Do not insert a made-up figure where comparable data is missing.

For eligibility and reservation information, check the IBPS Clerk eligibility criteria.

Factors That Can Increase or Decrease the Cut Off

Factors That May Increase the Cut Off

  • An easier paper with many direct questions;
  • fewer vacancies in a State or category;
  • higher attendance and stronger competition;
  • high average accuracy; and
  • normalisation effects across shifts.

Factors That May Decrease the Cut Off

  • A difficult or lengthy paper;
  • higher vacancies;
  • lower overall attempts;
  • high negative marking due to guesswork; and
  • lower accuracy across shifts.

IBPS Clerk Safe Score vs Good Attempts

Good attempts indicate how many questions a well-prepared candidate may attempt in a specific shift. Safe score is an editorial preparation target for net marks, not an IBPS guarantee of qualification. They are not the same.

For example, 82 attempts with high accuracy can be stronger than 90 attempts with weak accuracy. For Prelims, net marks = correct answers − (0.25 × wrong answers). In Mains, the penalty is one-fourth of the marks assigned to the incorrect question, not necessarily 0.25 mark for every question. Candidates should track net score, accuracy, sectional balance and time management rather than attempts alone.

Preparation target: For Prelims, aim for the upper end of your State/UT range plus 3–5 marks in mocks. For Mains, focus on maximising raw marks instead of directly converting attempts into the final score scale.

Preparation Strategy to Cross the Expected Cut Off

  1. Complete the syllabus: Use the IBPS Clerk syllabus as a checklist.
  2. Build section-wise speed: Practise timed sets for Reasoning, Numerical Ability and English.
  3. Start Mains early: Do not wait for the Prelims result to begin General Awareness, advanced DI and high-level reasoning.
  4. Analyse every mock: Record concept errors, calculation errors, poor question selection and time loss.
  5. Use a realistic plan: Follow a structured preparation schedule and revise weak areas regularly.
  6. Protect accuracy: Random attempts can reduce an otherwise qualifying score because of negative marking.

No. The expected cut-off ranges are editorial predictions. IBPS releases the official cut-off with or after the result and scorecard.

What can be a safe score for IBPS Clerk Prelims?

A practical target is 3–5 marks above the upper end of your State/UT’s expected cut-off range in full-length mock tests. However, it does not guarantee qualification.

Is the IBPS Clerk cut-off the same for every State?

No. The cut-off varies across States and UTs depending on vacancies, competition, category distribution, exam difficulty and candidates’ performance.

Does IBPS Clerk have sectional cut-offs?

Candidates should check the official notification and scorecard for the relevant recruitment cycle, as IBPS may prescribe sectional and overall qualifying requirements.

Are IBPS Clerk Prelims marks added to the final merit list?

No. Prelims is generally a qualifying stage. Final selection is based mainly on Mains performance, subject to eligibility, document verification and other recruitment requirements.

Why does the IBPS Clerk Mains final cut-off appear lower than 200 marks?

The Mains examination carries 200 raw marks, but the final cut-off may be reported on a converted or normalised score scale. Raw marks and final allotment scores should not be compared directly.

Can a State with fewer vacancies have a high cut-off?

Yes. Fewer vacancies, high competition and an easier examination can significantly increase the State-wise cut-off.

Can normalisation change the IBPS Clerk cut-off?

Yes. Shift-wise normalisation may adjust candidates’ scores when examination shifts have different difficulty levels, affecting the final qualifying position.

Are good attempts and safe scores the same?

No. Good attempts represent the number of questions attempted, whereas a safe score means the expected net marks after accounting for accuracy and negative marking.

When will the official IBPS Clerk cut-off be released?

IBPS usually releases the official cut-off with or after the relevant result and scorecard. Candidates should regularly check the official IBPS website.
