SBI Clerk Age Limit for General and EWS Candidates

General and EWS candidates normally have a minimum age of 20 years and a maximum age of 28 years. EWS status by itself does not provide additional upper-age relaxation under the SBI Clerk 2026 age-relaxation table.

Therefore, a General/EWS candidate without another applicable relaxation must have been born between 2 April 1998 and 1 April 2006, both dates inclusive.

SBI Clerk Age Limit for OBC Candidates

Eligible OBC candidates receive 3 years of upper-age relaxation. This makes the effective upper age 31 years, subject to the conditions specified in the notification.

Importantly, SBI states that vacancies reserved for OBC candidates are for candidates belonging to the Non-Creamy Layer (NCL). OBC candidates belonging to the Creamy Layer are not entitled to OBC reservation or relaxation and should apply under the appropriate General category.

SBI Clerk Age Limit for SC/ST Candidates

SC and ST candidates receive 5 years of upper-age relaxation. With the standard upper age of 28 years, the effective maximum age becomes 33 years.

Candidates claiming SC/ST benefits must be able to produce the prescribed caste certificate issued by the competent authority when required by SBI.

Persons with Benchmark Disabilities receive category-specific upper-age relaxation:

SBI Clerk Age Limit for Ex-Servicemen

For Ex-Servicemen and Disabled Ex-Servicemen, the age-relaxation rule is different from the fixed 3-year or 5-year relaxation available to some other categories.

SBI provides relaxation equal to the actual period of service rendered in defence services plus 3 years. For Disabled Ex-Servicemen belonging to SC/ST, the notified provision is the actual period of defence service plus 8 years. The relaxation is subject to a maximum age of 50 years.

SBI Clerk Age Relaxation for Widows and Divorced Women

Widows, divorced women and women judicially separated from their husbands who have not remarried are eligible for 7 years of relaxation, subject to the following maximum age limits:

Candidates claiming this relaxation should ensure that they satisfy the exact marital-status conditions specified by SBI and possess the necessary supporting documents.

SBI Clerk Age Relaxation for Trained SBI Apprentices

SBI has also prescribed special upper-age relaxation for eligible trained apprentices of SBI.

This benefit is not available merely because a candidate has completed any apprenticeship. SBI specifies that the relaxation applies to eligible trained SBI apprentices whose engagement start date is on or after 1 January 2022 and who successfully completed the specified one-year branch experience in SBI on or before 31 August 2026, along with the other notified conditions.

Can SBI Clerk Age Relaxations Be Combined?

No. SBI specifically states that cumulative age relaxation will not be available under the listed items or by combining one relaxation item with another.

Example 2: Candidate Born on 1 April 1998

A General candidate born on 1 April 1998 falls outside the notified General/EWS DOB window because SBI specifies that candidates must have been born not earlier than 2 April 1998.

Example 3: Minimum-Age Boundary

A candidate born on 1 April 2006 falls on the latest eligible DOB boundary. A candidate born after this date would not satisfy the minimum-age requirement for this recruitment.
