SBI Clerk Age Relaxation 2026
SBI extends the upper-age ceiling under the SBI Clerk age limit rules for the categories listed below. The relaxation must be read together with its category requirements, documentary proof and any maximum cap stated in the advertisement.
Important: Category-wise age relaxation applies only to the upper-age limit. The minimum age requirement remains 20 years.
| Category | Relaxation | Effective Upper Age |
|---|---|---|
| General / EWS | No Relaxation | 28 years |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 3 years | 31 years |
| SC / ST | 5 years | 33 years |
| PwBD (General / EWS) | 10 years | 38 years |
| PwBD (OBC) | 13 years | 41 years |
| PwBD (SC / ST) | 15 years | 43 years |
| Ex-Servicemen / Disabled Ex-Servicemen | Actual period of defence service + 3 years; 8 years for Disabled Ex-Servicemen belonging to SC/ST |
Subject to a maximum age of 50 years |
| Widows / Divorced Women / Women Judicially Separated and Not Remarried | 7 years | Maximum 35 years for General/EWS, 38 years for OBC and 40 years for SC/ST |
| Trained Apprentices of SBI | General/EWS – 1 year OBC – 4 years SC/ST – 6 years PwBD General/EWS – 11 years PwBD OBC – 14 years PwBD SC/ST – 16 years |
As applicable |
The Trained Apprentice relaxation applies specifically to qualifying SBI-trained apprentices. An apprenticeship completed outside the notified SBI conditions does not create eligibility for this relaxation.
Important: Cumulative age relaxation is not available under two or more categories. Candidates must claim the single applicable relaxation supported by valid documents.
OBC-NCL rule: OBC relaxation is available only to candidates belonging to the Non-Creamy Layer. Candidates in the OBC Creamy Layer cannot claim OBC relaxation and must indicate the General category, as applicable. The prescribed OBC certificate containing the Non-Creamy Layer clause must be produced in accordance with the notification.
Category-Wise Eligible Date of Birth Range
The following DOB ranges are calculated from the notified 1 April 2026 reference date and the category-wise upper-age relaxations shown above. Candidates must still satisfy the applicable category and certificate conditions.
| Category | Eligible DOB Range |
|---|---|
| General / EWS | 2 April 1998 to 1 April 2006 |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 2 April 1995 to 1 April 2006 |
| SC / ST | 2 April 1993 to 1 April 2006 |
| PwBD General / EWS | 2 April 1988 to 1 April 2006 |
Note: Special categories such as Ex-Servicemen, widows/divorced women and eligible Trained Apprentices of SBI follow their separate notified relaxation or maximum-age rules, so they are not represented in this simplified DOB table.
How SBI Clerk Age Is Calculated
For SBI Clerk age limit eligibility, age is not calculated using the examination date, application date or result date. For the 2026 recruitment, age is calculated strictly as on 1 April 2026. Candidates should use the date of birth recorded in their Class 10 certificate or equivalent valid proof.
Quick eligibility check:
- Check whether your DOB falls within 2 April 1998 to 1 April 2006 under the basic rule.
- If it does not, identify the single applicable age-relaxation category supported by your valid certificate.
- Apply the notified relaxation or special-category cap and verify the result from the official SBI advertisement.
Official Date-of-Birth Boundary Example
The following examples use the official 2026 cut-off date of 1 April 2026.
- Candidate DOB: 2 April 1998 → falls on the earliest permitted DOB boundary → eligible under the basic age rule.
- Candidate DOB: 1 April 1998 → is earlier than the permitted DOB range → not eligible under the General/EWS basic age rule.
- Candidate DOB: 1 April 2006 → falls on the latest permitted DOB boundary → eligible under the basic age rule.
These official boundaries show why even a difference of one day can affect age eligibility.

Special Category Rules
Ex-Servicemen / Disabled Ex-Servicemen
The SBI Clerk Ex-Servicemen age relaxation is equal to the actual period of service rendered in defence services plus 3 years. For Disabled Ex-Servicemen belonging to SC/ST under the applicable rule, the relaxation is 8 years, subject to a maximum age of 50 years. This does not automatically make every Ex-Serviceman eligible up to age 50; the permitted age depends on the service-based calculation and the notification conditions.
Widows / Divorced Women / Judicially Separated Women
Women who are widowed, divorced, or judicially separated from their husbands and have not remarried receive 7 years of age relaxation.
Under the SBI Clerk widow age relaxation rule, the maximum permissible age is:
- General / EWS – 35 years
- OBC – 38 years
- SC / ST – 40 years
Trained Apprentices of SBI
The 2026 SBI Junior Associate advertisement provides SBI Clerk trained apprentice age relaxation only for eligible Trained Apprentices of SBI whose engagement began on or after 1 January 2022, who successfully completed one year of specified branch experience in SBI by 31 August 2026, and who meet SBI’s conduct, performance, skill-evaluation and certificate requirements.
- General / EWS – 1 year
- OBC – 4 years
- SC / ST – 6 years
- PwBD General / EWS – 11 years
- PwBD OBC – 14 years
- PwBD SC / ST – 16 years
This relaxation is specific to qualifying SBI-trained apprentices and should not be treated as a general apprentice relaxation.
Documents Required for SBI Clerk Age Relaxation
A SBI Clerk age limit relaxation claim is accepted only with valid supporting proof. The official notification requires the necessary certificates at the prescribed stage and does not allow a candidate to change category after online registration.
Commonly relevant documents include:
- Class 10 certificate / valid DOB proof
- SC/ST category certificate, where applicable
- OBC Non-Creamy Layer certificate with the required NCL clause, where applicable
- PwBD certificate, where applicable
- Ex-Servicemen / Disabled Ex-Servicemen certificate or service proof, where applicable
- Widow / divorce / judicial separation proof, wherever applicable
- Required SBI Trained Apprentice records / certificate, where that relaxation is claimed
Common Age-Limit Mistakes Candidates Make
Candidates should avoid the following common mistakes while checking the SBI Clerk age limit:
- Calculating age using the wrong date.
- Assuming that age relaxation applies automatically without valid certificate support.
- Confusing OBC eligibility with OBC-NCL requirements.
- Ignoring the specific maximum-age cap applicable to widow and divorced-women categories.
- Trying to combine two age relaxations even though cumulative relaxation is not permitted.
- Treating SBI’s trained-apprentice relaxation as applicable to every apprenticeship.
