IBPS Clerk Ex-Servicemen Preparation Strategy 2026 90-day study plan
Follow this 90-day IBPS Clerk Ex-Servicemen preparation roadmap covering concepts, practice, mock tests and revision.

The IBPS Clerk Ex-Servicemen Preparation Strategy 2026 can help candidates restart their banking exam preparation in a systematic way, especially those returning to studies after a long gap.

The right strategy is not about studying for 8–10 hours every day. Candidates need to understand what to study, which topics to prioritize, when to start mock tests and how to improve their weak areas.

IBPS CRP-CSA-XVI recruitment is for the post of Customer Service Associate (CSA), commonly searched by candidates as IBPS Clerk. Ex-Servicemen candidates should prepare seriously for the notified examination while also checking category-specific eligibility, reservation, age relaxation and document requirements.

This article provides a practical 90-day IBPS Clerk study plan for Ex-Servicemen, including subject-wise preparation, mock-test strategy, daily timetable, PYQ strategy, revision plan and important mistakes to avoid. A shorter plan is included for candidates with limited preparation time. Study hours, topic priorities and test targets below are suggested routines, not official IBPS requirements or a guarantee of selection.

Preparation Note for Ex-Servicemen

Plan for Prelims and Mains together. Begin with a diagnostic test, rebuild weak basics and keep a small daily General/Financial Awareness slot. Increase timed practice as your accuracy improves. Choose the length of your study plan according to the time available and your starting level.

Less Than 90 Days Available? Use the 30-day preparation plan for late starters as a shorter framework. With fewer than 30 days left, adapt it to the remaining days instead of restarting the complete 90-day cycle.

Quick Preparation Formula

Day 1–30: Build concepts, start short tests and daily awareness study.
Day 31–60: Improve speed and accuracy with timed practice and regular mocks.
Day 61–90: Prioritize full mocks, PYQs, error analysis and revision.

IBPS Clerk 2026 Exam Pattern for Ex-Servicemen

Before preparing any study timetable, candidates should understand the examination structure. Ex-Servicemen should prepare for the same notified online tests, not a separate easier paper. The tables below follow Section D of the IBPS CRP-CSA-XVI notification.

Selection priority: Prelims is for shortlisting. Mains marks determine final merit; appointment also depends on eligibility, document verification and the applicable language requirement.

IBPS Clerk Prelims Exam Pattern 2026

Section Questions Marks Time
English Language 30 30 20 Minutes
Numerical Ability 35 35 20 Minutes
Reasoning Ability 35 35 20 Minutes
Total 100 100 60 Minutes

What Does the Prelims Pattern Mean for Your Preparation?

Each Prelims section has its own 20-minute limit, and candidates must clear each sectional cut-off. Do not plan to transfer unused English time to Quant or Reasoning. Focus on:

  • Speed
  • Accuracy
  • Question selection
  • Sectional time management
  • Regular timed practice
ExamTune Tip: After completing the basics, stop solving every question without a timer. Start practicing according to sectional timing.

IBPS Clerk Mains Exam Pattern 2026

The notified section is Reasoning Ability; there is no separately scored Computer Aptitude section. Do not confuse this with the separate computer-literacy eligibility requirement. The table order is not a promised on-screen section sequence. In Mains, qualify in each test and meet the required overall score; do not neglect a weak section.

Section Questions Marks Time
General/Financial Awareness 40 50 20 Minutes
General English 40 40 35 Minutes
Reasoning Ability 40 60 35 Minutes
Quantitative Aptitude 40 50 35 Minutes
Total 160 200 125 Minutes
Negative Marking Alert: For every incorrect objective-test answer, one-fourth of the marks assigned to that question is deducted. No penalty is applied to an unanswered question. Avoid blind guessing and focus on maximum correct attempts with good accuracy.

IBPS Clerk Ex-Servicemen 90-Day Study Plan

A 90-day preparation period can be effective if candidates divide their studies into three clear phases instead of trying to complete everything simultaneously.

How to use this roadmap: Choose the phase that matches your preparation level. A candidate who has already covered the basics should move to timed practice and analysis instead of repeating a full month of foundation work.

Phase Days Main Target
Phase 1 Day 1–30 Concepts, Fundamentals, Short Tests & Daily Awareness
Phase 2 Day 31–60 Timed Practice, Speed, Accuracy & Regular Mocks
Phase 3 Day 61–90 Mocks, PYQs & Revision

IBPS Clerk 30-Day Preparation Plan for Late Starters

Use this as a prioritization framework, especially when you already know some basics. A complete beginner may need longer. Attempt a diagnostic test, identify weak areas and adjust the plan to the days actually available. Avoid assuming that any fixed number of mocks or attempts guarantees qualification.

Period Main Work Suggested Test Target
Day 1–7 Diagnose weaknesses. Revise calculations, basic Arithmetic, Inequality, Syllogism, grammar and short Reading Comprehension. Keep a daily awareness-revision slot. One diagnostic test, followed by short topic tests or alternate-day sectionals
Day 8–15 Practice timed Arithmetic, DI, seating arrangements, puzzles, Cloze Test and error detection. Repair mistakes before increasing attempts. Two or three full Prelims mocks, each followed by analysis
Day 16–25 Complete mixed practice, question-selection drills, weak-topic repair, formula revision and repeated-error removal. Four or five full mocks; reduce the count when analysis is incomplete
Day 26–30 Revise the error notebook, formulas and familiar question types. Keep the final one or two days light if the exam follows immediately. One or two controlled mocks early in this block; no unreviewed mock backlog
After Prelims: Increase General/Financial Awareness revision and higher-level Mains practice immediately. Do not wait for the result, and do not postpone your first awareness-study session until after Prelims.

Phase 1: Day 1–30 – Build Strong Fundamentals

The first month is especially important for Ex-Servicemen candidates returning to academic preparation after a long gap.

Do not chase speed from Day 1. First understand the basic method and develop confidence. Begin short topic quizzes during this phase and use a sectional or diagnostic test to check progress; do not wait until Day 61 to discover your weak areas. Include a small daily General/Financial Awareness slot throughout the roadmap.

Once the basic concepts are clear, increase mixed and timed question practice. As a suggested starting point, attempt one or two full Prelims mocks per week and review every test. Adjust the frequency to your preparation level and available analysis time.

Quant Focus

  • Arithmetic Mixed Questions
  • Data Interpretation
  • Caselet DI
  • Number Series
  • Simplification & Approximation
  • Timed Calculation Drills
  • Quadratic Equations
  • Pipes & Cisterns, Boats & Streams and Mensuration

By Day 60, candidates should know not only how to solve a question, but also whether that question is worth attempting during the examination.

Phase 3: Day 61–90 – Mock Tests, PYQs and Revision

The final phase should be exam-oriented. Depending on readiness, three to five analyzed mocks per week can be a useful target; the quality of review matters more than the number attempted. These are suggested frequencies, not mandatory totals.

  • Attempt regular full-length mock tests.
  • Practice sectional tests.
  • Solve previous-year questions.
  • Analyze every incorrect answer.
  • Revise formulas regularly.
  • Practice weak chapters.
  • Improve question selection.
  • Revise General and Financial Awareness.
Phase 3 Mindset: Stop asking “Which chapter should I study today?” and start asking “How can I convert my existing preparation into more marks?”

IBPS Clerk Ex-Servicemen 2026 subject-wise preparation strategy for Quant Reasoning English and General Awareness
Prepare Quant, Reasoning, English and General Awareness with a focused subject-wise strategy for IBPS Clerk 2026.

Quantitative Aptitude Preparation Strategy

For many candidates returning to studies after several years, calculation speed may initially be a major challenge.

Do not directly start with difficult Data Interpretation sets. First strengthen basic calculations and Arithmetic. Treat the following list as study priorities rather than guaranteed questions or fixed topic-wise weightage.

Important Quant Topics

  • Simplification
  • Approximation
  • Number Series
  • Percentage
  • Ratio & Proportion
  • Average
  • Profit & Loss
  • Simple and Compound Interest
  • Time & Work
  • Time, Speed & Distance
  • Data Interpretation
  • Quadratic Equations
  • Mixture & Alligation, Partnership and Ages
  • Pipes & Cisterns, Trains and Boats & Streams
  • Mensuration
Daily Quant Target: Solve around 20–30 topic-based questions and spend 10–15 minutes on calculation practice.

Candidates should regularly practice:

  • Tables
  • Squares
  • Cubes
  • Fractions
  • Fraction-to-percentage conversions
  • Percentage calculations

ExamTune Practice Tip: Include a short calculation drill in your daily routine. Track both the number of correct answers and the time taken; avoid learning shortcuts before understanding the underlying method.

Mains extension: Once the basics are stable, add multi-step Arithmetic, caselet and missing DI, Data Sufficiency and Quantity Comparison. Start with a few carefully reviewed sets rather than an unrealistic daily question count.

Reasoning Ability Preparation Strategy

Use short-question topics to rebuild confidence, then add puzzles and timed mixed practice. Track your own results instead of assuming Reasoning will automatically be your highest-scoring section.

Start With Easier Topics

  • Inequality
  • Syllogism
  • Coding-Decoding
  • Blood Relation
  • Direction Sense
  • Order & Ranking
  • Alphanumeric Series

Then Move to Puzzles

  • Linear Seating Arrangement
  • Circular Seating Arrangement
  • Floor-Based Puzzle
  • Box-Based Puzzle
  • Month and Date Puzzle
  • Mixed Seating Arrangements

Do not measure your preparation only by the number of questions solved.

Monitor:

Accuracy + Time Taken + Question Selection

For Mains-oriented practice, gradually include multi-variable arrangements, Input-Output, Data Sufficiency and logical reasoning. Choose practice sets suited to your current level.

Example: If a puzzle takes 15 minutes, check why. Did you misunderstand the clues, create unnecessary cases or choose the wrong starting point? Identifying the reason is more important than simply solving another puzzle.

English Language Preparation Strategy

Candidates weak in English should not begin by memorizing hundreds of difficult words.

First build a regular reading habit and improve basic grammar.

Important English Topics

  • Reading Comprehension
  • Error Detection
  • Cloze Test
  • Fillers
  • Sentence Improvement
  • Para Jumbles
  • Vocabulary in Context

30-Minute English Formula

10 Minutes – Reading
10 Minutes – Grammar
10 Minutes – Exam Questions and Review

Daily consistency is more useful than studying English for several hours only once a week.

General and Financial Awareness Preparation Strategy

Candidates targeting final selection should not wait until Prelims is over to start General and Financial Awareness. Begin with 20–30 minutes of learning and a short revision or quiz slot. Increase this allocation during Mains-focused preparation.

Important Areas

  • Current Affairs
  • Banking Awareness
  • Financial Awareness
  • RBI-related Updates
  • Government Schemes
  • Important Appointments
  • Reports and Indexes
  • Important National Events
  • Important International Events

The biggest problem with Current Affairs is often not learning information—it is retaining it.

Follow:

Read → Revise → Test → Revise Again

Suggested coverage: Maintain a rolling six-month current-affairs file, with recent months reviewed first, and revise static banking and financial concepts alongside it. This is a planning target, not an official six-month boundary; do not assume older relevant developments cannot be asked. Keep one main study source and confirm important banking updates through the issuing institution.

Revision routine: Review the previous day’s notes, take a weekly cumulative quiz and revisit monthly notes. Record missed facts in a short revision sheet instead of repeatedly collecting new PDFs.

Best Daily Study Timetable for Ex-Servicemen

Candidates should prepare a realistic schedule that they can follow consistently. The timetable below is for concept-study days and totals 280 minutes: 4 hours 40 minutes, excluding breaks.

Subject / Activity Suggested Time
Quantitative Aptitude 60 Minutes
Reasoning Ability 60 Minutes
English Language 40 Minutes
General/Financial Awareness 40 Minutes
PYQ / Sectional Test + Review 60 Minutes
Error Notebook Revision 20 Minutes

On full-mock days, replace part of the regular subject-study schedule with the test and its analysis. Do not add a full mock on top of every listed activity or assume a short error-notebook slot is enough for detailed analysis.

Only 3 Hours Available?

Candidates with family, work or other responsibilities can use the shorter timetable below.

Activity Time
Quant 45 Minutes
Reasoning 45 Minutes
English 30 Minutes
GA 30 Minutes
20-Minute Sectional / PYQ + 10-Minute Review 30 Minutes

Total: 180 minutes, or 3 hours. This is a regular study-day plan, not a full-mock-day plan.

Three-Hour Prelims Mock Day:
60 minutes – Full Prelims mock
60 minutes – Analysis and re-solving
20 minutes – General/Financial Awareness revision
20 minutes – English revision
20 minutes – One weak topic
Total: 180 minutes. On a dedicated Mains mock day, allow 125 uninterrupted minutes for the test and use the remaining 55 minutes for an initial review; complete any unfinished analysis in the next study session.

Remember: Choose a repeatable routine and adjust subject time using your error record. Do not count passive video-watching as a replacement for solving questions.

IBPS Clerk Ex-Servicemen 2026 mock test and previous year question strategy
Use mock tests, PYQs, mistake analysis and time management to improve your IBPS Clerk preparation.

IBPS Clerk Mock Test Strategy for Ex-Servicemen

Mock tests should not be used only to check your score.

Their biggest purpose is to identify why you are losing marks. Review wrong answers, guessed answers and easy questions left unattempted before taking the next mock.

Track five measures: Attempts, correct answers, wrong answers, accuracy and time lost on low-return questions. Compare mocks of similar difficulty, not just raw scores from unrelated test series.

Prelims Practice Example: 80 attempts, 72 correct and 8 wrong give a raw practice score of 72 − (8 × 0.25) = 70 marks. Accuracy is 72 ÷ 80 × 100 = 90%. This illustration is not a predicted cut-off or a normalized IBPS score.

Question-selection drill: During practice, take familiar questions first within the active section. When you cannot identify a workable approach, move on and return later if time permits. Judge a puzzle or DI set by the whole set, not only its opening question.

Mistake Type Problem Solution
Concept Error Concept is unclear Study the topic again
Calculation Error Method correct but answer wrong Daily calculation drill
Time Error Question took too long Timed practice
Selection Error Wrong question attempted first Improve question selection

Example of Correct Mock Analysis

Suppose your Quant score is low.

Do not simply say:

“My Maths is weak.”

Instead, identify the exact reason:

  • 4 questions missed because calculations were slow.
  • 3 questions were wrong due to concept errors.
  • 5 questions were left because DI consumed too much time.
  • 2 easy questions were missed because of poor question selection.

Now you know exactly what to improve the next day.

Maintain an Error Notebook

After every test, write:

Topic → Mistake → Correct Approach

For example:

Topic: Percentage
Mistake: Used the wrong base value.
Correct Approach: Identify the original/base value before calculating percentage change.

Before your next mock, revise the error notebook for 10–15 minutes. As a suggested revision cycle, re-solve a missed question the next day, after three days and after one week without looking at the solution first.

The objective is simple:

Do not make the same mistake repeatedly.

Weekly Preparation Plan for IBPS Clerk Ex-Servicemen 2026

Candidates can use six days for study and keep one day mainly for revision and testing.

Weekly Revision Day

  • Revise Quant formulas.
  • Revise calculation techniques.
  • Revise English grammar rules.
  • Revise Current Affairs.
  • Attempt one mock or sectional test.
  • Analyze mistakes.
  • Identify weak topics.
  • Set targets for the next week.

Do not start a new study week without analyzing what improved during the previous week.

Special Preparation Tips for Ex-Servicemen Candidates

For many Ex-Servicemen candidates, the biggest initial challenge may not be the syllabus itself.

It may be getting back into the habit of regular academic study.

During the first 10–15 days, focus on rebuilding:

  • Calculation speed
  • Daily English reading habit
  • Sitting concentration
  • Computer-based exam comfort
  • Daily study consistency
  • Question-solving confidence
Do Not Compare Yourself: Do not compare your Day 5 performance with someone who has already been preparing for six months. Compare yourself with your own performance from the previous week.

Practice some tests on a desktop or laptop to build comfort with reading on-screen, navigating questions and reviewing saved responses. Use the examination handout to understand the actual interface instructions.

Keep eligibility and document checks separate from your study targets. Use the Ex-Servicemen eligibility guide to organize the relevant service, qualification and supporting-document checks; follow the official notice for your case.

Your Discipline Can Become Your Biggest Advantage

The discipline developed during service can become a major strength in competitive examination preparation.

Use the same discipline for:

Study → Practice → Test → Analysis → Revision

Do Not Ignore the Local Language Requirement

The Local Language Proficiency Test (LLPT) is qualifying and takes place after Mains/provisional allotment, before joining. Prepare to read, write, speak and understand your opted local language.

Candidates producing a Class 10 or higher marksheet/certificate showing study of that language are exempt from the test. Others must qualify; failure prevents appointment. Check Section H of the notification and the allotted bank’s instructions.

Preparation suggestion: Where language practice is needed, use short reading, writing and speaking exercises. Do not assume that having served in a State by itself proves eligibility for an exemption.

How to Use Previous Year Questions Correctly?

Check whether a paper is officially released or memory-based; do not label a memory-based reconstruction as an official paper. Older questions can support topic practice, but use the current pattern for full-length simulations.

Previous-year questions, or PYQs, help candidates understand:

  • Frequently tested concepts
  • Important topics
  • Typical question level
  • Exam approach
  • Easy scoring areas
  • Personal weak topics

Best PYQ Strategy:

Learn Topic → Solve Topic-Wise PYQs → Take Sectional Test → Analyze → Revise

IBPS Clerk Ex-Servicemen 2026 Last 15 Days Strategy

The final 15 days are not the right time to collect new books, PDFs, courses and preparation strategies.
During the final days, prioritize the stage you are about to take. Before Prelims, emphasize the three Prelims sections and retain only a manageable awareness-revision slot. Before Mains, give General/Financial Awareness a full place in your revision schedule.

Concentrate mainly on:

  • Full-length mock tests
  • Sectional tests
  • Previous-year questions
  • Arithmetic formulas
  • Calculation drills
  • Puzzle practice
  • English grammar revision
  • Current Affairs revision
  • Error notebook
  • Weak-topic revision
Golden Rule for the Last 15 Days: Do not try to increase your syllabus. Try to increase your marks from the syllabus you already know.

10 Common Preparation Mistakes Ex-Servicemen Should Avoid

  1. Waiting for the entire syllabus to finish before attempting tests.
  2. Attempting mock tests without analyzing mistakes.
  3. Studying only favourite subjects.
  4. Ignoring English preparation.
  5. Starting General Awareness too late.
  6. Practicing without a timer.
  7. Changing books and strategies every few days.
  8. Ignoring Previous Year Questions.
  9. Comparing daily mock scores with other candidates.
  10. Failing to revise already completed topics.

One good strategy followed consistently for 90 days is better than ten strategies followed for only a few days each.

What Should You Do Today?

Do not finish this article and postpone your preparation until tomorrow.

Step 1: Attempt one Prelims-level sectional test or PYQ set.

Step 2: Identify your two weakest areas.

Step 3: Choose the 90-day roadmap or shorter plan according to your preparation level and remaining time.

Your first test score does not decide your final result.

It simply tells you where your preparation is starting from.

IBPS Clerk Ex-Servicemen 90-Day Preparation Checklist

Candidates should verify exam pattern, category eligibility, reservation rules, language requirements and other recruitment conditions from the official IBPS notification.

Final Preparation Advice

The IBPS Clerk Ex-Servicemen Preparation Strategy 2026 does not need to be complicated.

With a full 90 days available, first strengthen concepts while beginning short tests and daily awareness study. Then increase timed practice and regular mocks, followed by focused revision and error analysis.

With less time available, begin from your current preparation level and adapt the shorter plan. Do not restart every chapter or postpone Mains awareness preparation simply because a timetable divides the work into phases.

Learn → Practice → PYQ → Mock → Analyze → Revise → Repeat

Do not judge your preparation only by how many hours you spend studying.

Judge it by:

  • How many concepts you understand
  • How many questions you solve correctly
  • How much your mock performance improves
  • How many repeated mistakes you eliminate

Ask yourself every seven days:

“Am I better prepared today than I was one week ago?”

Your service gave you discipline. Now use that discipline to build your next career in banking.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should Ex-Servicemen start IBPS Clerk preparation after a long study gap?

Start with a diagnostic sectional test or previous-year question set to identify weak areas. Rebuild basic calculations, Arithmetic, Reasoning and English grammar before focusing heavily on speed. Follow a manageable daily routine and practise on a computer to become comfortable with the examination format.

Is a 90-day study plan enough for IBPS Clerk preparation?

A 90-day plan can provide a useful structure, but the time required depends on your starting level and consistency. Use the first phase for fundamentals, the second for speed and accuracy, and the final phase for mock tests, previous-year questions and revision. Adjust the plan according to your progress

How should Ex-Servicemen use the 30-day IBPS Clerk preparation plan?

Use the 30-day plan as a focused preparation or revision schedule. Prioritise weak fundamentals, timed sectional practice, mock-test analysis and repeated-error correction. Candidates starting from zero may need more time; completing a 30-day schedule should not be treated as a guarantee of qualification.

Is the IBPS Clerk exam pattern different for Ex-Servicemen?

No separate Ex-Servicemen examination pattern is prescribed. Prelims has 100 questions for 100 marks in 60 minutes. Mains has 160 questions for 200 marks in 125 minutes. Prepare according to the common notified pattern and sectional timings.

How many hours should Ex-Servicemen study daily for IBPS Clerk?

Around three to five focused hours can be a practical starting target, depending on your preparation level and responsibilities. Include learning, question practice, testing and revision. On full-mock days, adjust the normal subject timetable so that sufficient time remains for analysing the test

When should I start IBPS Clerk mock tests?

Do not wait until the entire syllabus is complete before attempting tests. Start with a diagnostic test and topic-wise practice, then introduce timed sectional tests as your basics improve. Increase full-length mock practice gradually, and analyse each test before attempting the next one.

How should I analyse an IBPS Clerk mock test?

Classify lost marks into concept errors, calculation mistakes, excessive time spent and poor question selection. Review incorrect answers as well as easy questions you left unattempted. Record the topic, mistake and correct approach in an error notebook, then practise the areas responsible for repeated losses.

Should I prepare General and Financial Awareness before Prelims?

Yes. Keep a manageable General and Financial Awareness routine alongside Prelims preparation instead of leaving everything until later. Cover banking awareness and relevant current affairs, and revise regularly. After Prelims, increase Mains-focused preparation without waiting for the result

What is the negative marking rule in IBPS Clerk?

For each incorrect objective-test answer, one-fourth of the marks assigned to that question is deducted. Unanswered questions carry no penalty. In Prelims, an incorrect one-mark question therefore attracts a deduction of 0.25 marks.

Do IBPS Clerk Prelims marks count towards final merit?

No. Only Mains examination marks are considered for final merit. Candidates must also satisfy the applicable qualifying scores, eligibility checks, document verification and local-language requirements. Clearing Prelims alone does not ensure final selection.
